Signs of the Past

Kattskill House.jpg

Kattskill House, Lake George, ca. 1875

On exhibit through September 30, 2018

In the 1870s and 1880s, signs served many purposes.  They helped people travel by identifying hotels, steam boats, train stations and trolley cars, and they guided people to needed goods and services. Signs advertised businesses and welcomed people to destinations.  This small show of Stoddard’s photographs demonstrates the range of signs used in the region in the late 19th century.
