Frank Smith, a sign maker in the Albany, NY area since 1980, will talk about the design of signs, including font selection, and demonstrate his techniques of hand painting signs.  The program is free and open to the public.

Born in rural upstate New York, Frank Smith has always been drawing and painting.  He attended Greenwich High School and Empire State College.  In 1980, he founded Frank Smith Signs where he continues to provide quality commercial art and signs to the business community of the Capital Region and beyond.  Frank integrates his background in art and design into every custom job.

Camp, farm and house signs are among the most unique and artistic signage Frank makes.  He uses cedar and mahogany woods, slate shingles, paddles, tree slices, birch bark, high density urethane sign foam, metal laminates and more. He also specializes in hand lettering, carving, and gilding,  the age old process of applying gold leaf to surfaces.
