Pineview Cemetery Tour

9/23/2017  10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Continuing a collaboration between the Chapman Museum and the Glens Falls Community Theatre that started seventeen  years ago, the 2017 tour will emphasize “theatre” and “women.”

More than a stroll through the cemetery, simply armed with dates and names, this event is truly living theatre. All of us working on this project strive to bring people’s stories to life. From the museum’s research, to the storytelling of the writer’s scripts, to the casting and direction of the talented directors, to the superb performances of the Community Theatre cast members, this event embodies living theatre in a unique setting.

This year also is the Suffrage Centennial for New York State. The Chapman Museum has been involved all year in hosting events for the community to commemorate the historic event. New York State was the 12th state to grant full suffrage to women, and the first state east of the Mississippi River. No other state granted suffrage until the 19th amendment was passed in 1919. So we have much to celebrate! In that spirit, we decided to dedicate this cemetery tour to the women of our community. Not just suffragists, but all types of women who helped form the community we love today. We hope you’ll join us in honoring them.

Walking tours are scheduled for 10 am, 10:30 am, 11 am, 12 noon, 12:30 pm, and 1:00 pm. Two golf cart tours are offered at 10:15 am and 12:15 pm for people with mobility challenges.

The cost is $12/person, $8/students, and a $2 discount for museum members. Paid reservations in advance are strongly recommended since tours do sell out. Walk-ins are welcome if there is room.

For reservations, call 518-793-2826 or stop by the museum.
